August Part 1 of 6 (anniversary trip!)

Then Summer and I left!  In honor of our anniversary, we took a trip while Grandma Susy and Grandpa John tended the kiddos.  We'd meant to go to the Outer Banks, but a freak accident in North Carolina derailed our plans and sent us to Virginia instead.

We stopped for good food in Richmond ...

... and for history in Charlottesville (just a week before the violence there), where we took in Monticello ...

... and came away impressed.

We stayed at an inn on a working farm in the mountains, visiting the chickens ...

... hiking the trails ...

... kayaking the Cowpasture River ...

... and visiting vineyards.

It was a lovely time.  And on the way home, we drove through Shenandoah National Park, stopping along the way to take in the scenery ...

... to wander out onto promontories ...

... and even to take a quick hike to Dark Hollow Falls.

Finally, we dined in one of the South's finest establishments, Waffle House.

What a way to end our trip!
