September, Start of School, Maxwell Mays

We had Labor Day to recover before the kiddos' school orientation.  We slept in and visited our garden plot.

The next day was orientation. After visiting the kiddos' school, I headed to work and Summer got the kiddos baking.

Then came the real first day of school.  The kiddos were excited!

And with that, life returned to normal ...

... more or less, anyway.  Oliver had had a borderline lead reading at his three-year checkup.  This meant he had to go in for a full venous draw, a traumatic experience made more so when the phlebotomist at his usual clinic couldn't find a vein after multiple sticks so Summer had to take him elsewhere for the draw.  Naturally, Oliver was deeply upset, but he nevertheless tried his hardest to put on his usual happy face.

That weekend we met up with Benji and family at a touch-a-truck event in East Providence.  We rode a carousel, had Del's, found a pikachu ...

... and got to experience all sorts of interesting vehicles.

At home, we assembled gliders from Uncle Marc ...

... and worked on art.

Then we went for a hike at the always enjoyable Maxwell Mays Wildlife Refuge.

The kiddos gazed out on Carr Pond.

We climbed big rocks.

We found a snake!

Madeline even touched it.

Then we got our feet wet in a little creek ...

... sat and contemplated ...

... and, finally, dried our feet off and carried on.

Later at the garden, we even saw a fine cicada.
