Christmas vacation, part 2 of 3 (Christmas)

The night of Christmas Eve, Madeline had sparkling cider, which made her nervous because it was "spicy."

After dinner, we hung stockings in anticipation of Santa's visit.

We also put out milk and cookies.

Madeline was excited.

At bedtime, she wanted to read some books herself.

Oliver mostly just did his usual thing.

Then came Christmas morning!  Santa had come in the night with good stuff for the kiddos.

Madeline admired her loot ...

... while Oliver seemed surprised by the festivities.

For breakfast, there was kringle -- and, in true Portland style, Voodoo Doughnuts Matt had brought home after work on Christmas Eve.

When it was time to open presents, all the hubbub and merriment knocked Oliver out.

Madeline, though, was up to the task.  Here, she's excitedly opening her present from Uncle Matt: a giant Duplo zoo!

Eventually Oliver woke up and enjoyed his presents too.

Madeline spent many hours over the rest of the visit playing with her Duplo zoo.

While Oliver just did his thing.

It was a merry Christmas indeed.

  1. Yay!!!! What wonderful pictures and what a fun time you all had. I thought you were flying back today and was so relieved when I heard you were safely at home. Just love these pictures and remember what fun it was to have a Christmas with little ones...it's been a long time, but remains a wonderful memory. My, has Oliver grown since we last saw pictures of him...must be really heavy to hold. Thanks so much...Christmas is now complete.
    Much Love...N
