3. Pacific coast

The next day, after some reading ...

... we headed out to the Devil's Punchbowl on the Oregon coast.

Madeline was surprised by the cool Pacific water.

We explored the surf ...

... found tiny crabs ...

... and wandered among the rocks.

Madeline went to her uncles ...

.. to show them one of her finds.

And we all wandered amok.

Madeline assumed her Nereid persona.

Then we went up top to look down on the Devil's Punchbowl itself.  It was in something of a mellow mood. But we could see whales breaching in the distance!

After a lunch at Moe's, a seafood spot at the top of the cliff overlooking the punchbowl, we proceeded up the coast to Cape Meares.  The fog was so thick we seemed to be entering another world.

But that didn't preclude silliness.

Cape Meares features the so-called Octopus Tree, which we visited.

Oliver was pleased with this.

He also enjoyed looking up at the other trees on the cape.

So ended our day on the coast.
