Sick Petey & beach part 1

Ahh, the waning days of summer.

Unfortunately, Madeline, Oliver, and I spent some of them playing by the school ...

... while Summer took a seriously ill Petey to the vet.  Turns out his kidneys were failing and he required hospitalization.  The next day, we went to visit him at the vet's office.  He seemed better, but Madeline was still worried.

Despite her concerns about Petey, she was happy to get to pick out a backpack for school ...

... but she was even happier when Petey got to come home from the hospital.

Petey seemed to get better quicker than we expected (though even now he requires quite a bit of care and his kidney numbers remain bad).  So we packed up as planned and headed to Strathmere, New Jersey to hang out with lots of Greene relatives on the beach.

In Strathmere, we played Go Fish.

And we wandered on the beach.

Madeline spent lots of time looking for treasures.  She especially wanted to find a shark tooth.

No luck, though.

The kiddos played in a tide pool.

The day was very windy, so my towel fluttered in the air like a flag.

The kiddos liked hanging out at the house as well as the beach.

Lots of coloring happened there.

Madeline demanded that everyone draw ponies for her.

And she developed an interesting love of this wall that houses the house's septic tank.

All the activity sometimes made the kiddos tired.

But Oliver still had plenty of energy for delicious clams.

Madeline enjoyed spending time with her grandparents and great grandparents.

And she loved watching the sun set over the bay behind the house.
