Yale Peabody

Today we met Lauren for lunch and a visit to the Yale Peabody Museum.  That meant ...

... DINOSAURS! ...

... and a smilodon ...

... and comparative sculpts of early hominid and Homo sapiens skulls.

While Madeline enjoyed the exhibits, Oliver enjoyed the company.

And in addition to the exhibits and the company, it was exciting to see both the history and the present of paleontology on display.  Many of the museum's dinosaurs were discovered in the 19th century by the great Othniel C. Marsh (and are still mounted in ways that have long since been proven incorrect, like the eight-tail-spiked stegosaur -- though there are apparently plans to update the mounts).  But the statue below was just unveiled in 2005:

When we first floated the idea of the visit with Madeline, she jumped up and down like a piston and shouted, "YAYYYY!!!!! DINOSAURS!!!!!"  And the museum didn't disappoint.  On the ride home from New Haven, Madeline summed it all up, "I had fun at the museum with Lauren. Maybe we can go to the dinosaur museum again next week?"
