June 2018 part 24: the end of the road

It was hard to believe, after packing up our lives, selling our house, and driving thousands of miles, that an end was beginning to come into sight. From Wyoming, we made our way into Idaho, where we stopped for a delicious Mexican lunch in the town of Wendell.

Before we knew it, we were taking a break at a rest stop in eastern Oregon.

We spent the night in La Grande and had dinner at Side A Brewing -- some of the best food we'd had the whole trip, in fact.

The restaurant was in an old fire station, which the kids found neat. But they were also pretty tired from all the travel.

They were happy to be at the hotel, where (for the last of many times) we tested out the hotel pool and found it good.

The next day, we continued west. We stopped at the Vista House for a proper welcome to western Oregon ...

... and then at a Burgerville for a familiar lunch ...

... including milkshakes, yum.

When we pulled up to our final stop in Beaverton, the trip odometer said we'd gone over 3,662 miles -- not insignificant.

It was a once-in-a-lifetime trip, and we were both glad to have done it and glad to be done.

(And this seems like an appropriate time to break out of the summer 2018 timeline, join the present day, and wish everyone a Happy New Year!)
